The 12-week Harbor Parent Coaching Program empowers parents to build deep connections, effective communication, and lasting positive change within their families.
What to expect
Laying the Groundwork
In the first few weeks of the Harbor Parent Coaching program, we focus on building a strong foundation for empowered, conscious parenting. Our first goal is to set your intentions as a parent. What is working and what would you like to change? Where are your strengths and where do you need additional support? You'll learn about the core principles of the Harbor Method through the Jai Institute’s Ten Pillars of Transformational Parenting, and learn about the Power Over/Under paradigm.
Our first month together will culminate in an introduction to Attachment Science, where we begin to understand how we were parented, and how that shapes how we parent.
Throughout this phase, you will begin to grasp the Harbor principles and you will start to notice small shifts in your daily life with your family. You might relax a bit, feeling more confident that you are learning skills to create a home environment that nurtures trust, connection, and positive behavior.
The second month of our program delves deeper into the scientific foundations of the Harbor Program methodology. We'll introduce the process of ANCHOR and HARBOR, a guide to co-regulating with your child(ren). We will learn about Daniel Siegel’s concept of Mindsight, how to see beneath our children’s behaviors and approach them with empathy first.
We'll also explore the meaning of Emotional Intelligence and why it matters in parenting. You will practice feeling your feelings, understanding that emotions have a beginning, middle and end, and they do not define us. Finally, we will dive into Marshall Rosenberg’s teachings of Nonviolent Communication, exploring how our voice and language can free us from past parenting patterns, and lead us instead to have empowered conversations that prioritize empathy and connection.
Prioritizing Connection and Communication
During our final weeks together, our goals are to ensure you feel confident in your new skills and tools, to celebrate your growth throughout our time together at Harbor, and to renew your commitment to conscious, peaceful parenting.
In the final month, we explore topics of discipline based on your family values, rehabilitating your relationship with anger, and discovering healthy forms of aggression. We will highlight the importance of play and silliness as a conduit for connection and secure attachment. We will reflect on the original intentions you set at the start of the Harbor Program and how things have shifted thus far.
While we celebrate and reflect on your successes, we must remember that your transformation as a parent is an ongoing process. Peaceful parenting is a lifelong project. Your consistent dedication to building a secure attachment with your kids will continue to yield the trust, connection, and cooperation you so desire.
